Carefree's economy has been faltering. That reality is obvious as you view empty storefronts and buildings. To suggest otherwise is reckless and irresponsible. Neither we as citizens, nor the town as a whole, are exempt from the financial crisis that grips our state and the nation. Yes, we have some money in the bank but town government has done little to improve infrastructure or to effectively stimulate the fragile economy. Town government has ceded certain responsibilities to a self-appointed business group, demonstrating weakness and a total lack of leadership. Working with the business community is not the same as being led by them.
Perhaps you were uncomfortable with the recall election. Okay, that is long over now, but have you obtained satisfactory answers to your other concerns, the ones that have lingered long after that election in addition to other questions?
While you may have others, here are some important questions for which you should seek honest answers:
- Will property taxes, in conjunction with a 10.3% Sales Tax, increase your property value?
- Why did David Schwan oppose Direct Election of the Mayor, but support 4 year council terms?
- Why has private citizen Schwan refused to endorse anti-Property Tax ballot Propositions?
- Who has assumed leadership of economic stimulus within Carefree?
- Has there been a serious, unforced effort to reduce expenses?
- Has there been serious effort to restart our economic engine?
- Has there been serious discussion of implementing local Property Taxes (predictable income)?
- Can you explain the concept of properly educating voters to accept a Property Tax?
- Has there been serious concern regarding unethical behavior?
- Why weren’t certain contributions publicly announced?
Eyes and body language inform more clearly than rehearsed words.
